Basis Technology

Foreign language document and media exploitation

Basis Technology is the leading provider of developer tools and desktop applications for exploiting foreign language documents and digital media. At the core of this technology is Rosette, a powerful platform for natural language processing under development for over 12 years and supporting 20 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Korean, Russian, and Urdu.

The Rosette developer tools enable foreign language capabilities to be quickly added to large, complex systems, such as search engines, document repositories, and name matchers. Among the many such systems currently built on Rosette are Google’s web search, Microsoft’s Windows Live, the Endeca Information Access Platform, MarkLogic Server, and the U.S. Government’s National Harmony
document repository.

Basis Technology’s desktop applications enable intelligence analysts to quickly and accurately translate and link Arabic documents, bringing together information from multiple sources, including web pages, maps, name lists, and databases. This suite has been designed to provide features needed by expert linguists while still being accessible to individuals with no foreign language skills.

Basis Technology was founded in 1995 and is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with branch offices in San Francisco, Herndon, and Tokyo. The company’s software products are used today by over 200 multinational corporations and over 50 US, UK, and Japanese government programs.

In-Q-Tel initially invested in Basis Technology in March 2004. For more information, please visitwww.basistech.com.
