Rhevision Technology
Revolutionary optics technology for miniature and mobile imaging
Rhevision Technology is a high-tech company in San Diego, California, developing Miniature Tunable Camera Lenses. The first products being developed are optical auto-focus and zoom lens assemblies targeting the high-growth cameraphone market. Miniature cameras are now integrated in many products and applications, including cellular phones, PDAs, notebook computers, security cameras, and various medical instruments. This business surge has been fueled by the rapid development of low-cost CMOS image sensors. However, further proliferation of miniature cameras is stifled because of the very limited functionality of the front-end optics.
So far, no miniature cameras possess such essential features as optical zooming, autofocusing, and tunable field-of-view as digital still cameras do, simply because the traditional design of the optical lens system for still cameras cannot fit in the small form factor of these new products. Meetings with leading OEMs have validated their urgent need for integrated miniature auto-focus and zoom lens assemblies. Rhevision’s Miniature Tunable Camera Lenses are the only practical solution to this problem, while all other solutions fall short in terms of size, performance, cost, and/or practicality. Rhevision’s disruptive, patent-pending fluidic lens technology comes directly out of the engineering laboratories of the University of California, San Diego, where it has been under development for several years.
In-Q-Tel initially invested in Rhevision Technology in March 2006. For more information about Rhevision Technology, please visit www.rhevision.com.
